Toomey responds to cliff criticism

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Taking some heat from fellow fiscal conservatives (like Red State, which said he should be "ashamed" of his vote in approval of the fiscal cliff fix) Pat Toomey is playing defense hard. He hosted a conference call with reporters yesterday on the vote and appeared today on MSNBC to say he's prepared to go to the mat on the debt ceiling to force cuts in federal spending.

"We Republicans need to be willing to tolerate a temporary partial government shutdown, which is what that could mean, and insist that we get off the road to Greece because that's the road we're on now," he said.
