A tiny shred of more information was released today on the secretive committee running negative ads about mayoral candidate Bill Peduto.
The "Committee for a Better Pittsburgh" behind the ad is indeed the same one started in April 2011 by treasurer John R. Morgan, who has ties to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. A public file uploaded this afternoon by KDKA and dated Friday lists the advertiser's address as the same Downtown PO Box as that listed for "Better Pittsburgh" in state records.
As noted yesterday, Morgan (a PWSA financial analyst) has served as campaign treasurer for Adam Ravenstahl and Ravenstahl ally Jim Ferlo -- he also served that role in Corey O'Connor's inaugural city council campaign in 2011. Reached this afternoon O'Connor said he knew nothing about the committee and is trying to find out more about it from Morgan, who was travelling.
Campaign finance records on pre-May 21 primary spending are not due to be released until the end of day Friday, May 10.
