D7 Dem cmte vote this Sunday

Published by Tim McNulty on .

The Allegheny County Democratic committee announced today that their endorsement meeting for the open District 7 city council seat formerly held by Patrick Dowd will be this Sunday, July 21. So far only Tony Ceoffe Jr., 29, of Lawrenceville and Deb Gross, 47, of Highland Park are running for the party nod -- all candidates will have to file with the party by Friday afternoon.

Gross has the support of probable mayor Bill Peduto and big names.

But remember -- candidates don't need the Democratic committee endorsement (by just more than 100 people living in the East End district) to make the ballot. Registered Democrats can also make independent runs in special elections without the prohibitions in place for regular runs.

Here's the committee's announcement:

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee will hold the election to nominate a Democratic candidate for the City Council District 7 seat on July 21, 2013 from 9 AM-12 PM at the Teamsters Temple Local 249 (4701 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Candidates interested in filing for the nomination must file a letter of intent with Democratic Headquarters addressed to Secretary Floretta Irvin at 223 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2013 AT 5 PM.
