Peduto debates himself

Two Pittsburgh mayoral debates are scheduled for this week, and Democratic candidate Bill Peduto plans on attending them despiteeastwoodchair GOP opponent Josh Wander's ongoing absence.

At least he's used to dealing with empty chairs.

A forum is set for 10 a.m. this morning with seniors in Lincoln Place and another tomorrow night in Hazelwood. Peduto spokeswoman Sonya Toler says the councilman is going to both, as well as an address Wedesday night at GSPIA, Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

Wander is still in the Middle East and confirmed this morning he will not attend this week's events but will send a video message to GSPIA, which he attended (as Peduto did). "I hope I can soon come back," Wander said in a cell phone converstation, but had no definite dates.

As City Paper reported last week, WTAE-TV cancelled its scheduled Oct. 29 televised debate when Wander could not confirm attendance.

Independent Les Ludwig is also on the Nov. 5 ballot.
