Baer not messing around

Published by Tim McNulty on .

We knew Supreme Court Justice Max Baer was going to advertise in advance of Election Day, but . . . wow.

In the Pittsburgh market alone Baer appears to be spending $188,000 for just five days of buys from Halloween through election eve on Monday -- that's nearly twice as much as the usual large buy in the market, and triple what Luke Ravenstahl spent weekly this spring to attack Bill Peduto.

Baer, who is only facing an up-or-down retention vote Tuesday, did polling showing voters are mad as hell over the federal government shutdown and may take it out on any incumbents on the ballot, including jurists. Chief Justice Ron Castille, also facing retention Tuesday, filed papers today to begin advertising in Harrisburg.

UPDATE: Castille began advertising in the Pittsburgh market too over the weekend, in a $60K buy.
