Buncher: Be courageous on Strip

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Produce terminal

As Mark Belko wrote in the P-G today, the Buncher Co has a strong message for Pittsburgh City Council: either deny historic designation for the Strip District produce terminal or their $450 million riverfront development (which includes a rehab of the parts of the terminal they don't tear down) may go down the tubes.

Excerpts of the main parts of the letter to council from Buncher CEO Tom Balestrieri are below. In it he notes the heads of the Heinz History Center and Pgh History & Landmarks back their plan; that no one but Buncher has the resources to save parts of the terminal; the development firm has an interest generally in preserving the Strip; and he makes an appeal to council to be "courageous."
