Breakfast Sausage: 5 stories to read today

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Good morning.

1. Biggest news today of course is the Pa Supreme Court ruling major parts of the state's drilling law unconstitutional. More on that later.

2. Strange things brewing at the city's school board. Its new majority voted to look at taking over the $7 million mortgage of the August Wilson cultural center Downtown on the same day it reversed plans to shutter a weakly-attended school in Bloomfield.

3. In great news for kids within the district, ex-Mellon CEO Marty McGuinn and wife Ann are giving $1 million to the Pittsburgh Promise scholarship fund, the greatest gift in its history.

4. A bill waiting for Gov. Tom Corbett's signature seeking to prevent overtime spiking could save Allegheny County $1.1 billion in future pension benefits but not everybody is on board.

5. The real-life con at the heart of the critically-acclaimed "American Hustle" was started in Pittsburgh. (Can't wait to see if there's a Jack Murtha character too.)
