Cranberry Dem challenging Kelly

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Cranberry Democrat Dan LaVallee released a web video this morning announcing his intention to challenge Republican incumbent Mike Kelly this year in Pa's 3rd congressional district in the northwest part of the state.

LaVallee, 26, worked as deputy director of America's Health Insurance Plans, a health care trade association. The Carnegie Mellon grad's family long owned Pittsburgh's Kunst Bakery and helped launch the Caring Place for Greiving Families after the death of his brother, according to his biography.

Kelly beat Erie Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper in the 2010 GOP wave year, often hitting her over Obamacare. After that year's census Republican mapmakers redrew the district to cut some of Erie County and add more of growing Butler County, where both Kelly and LaVallee live.
