Perzel reflects

Jan Murphy of the Patriot-News, interviewed former state House Speaker John Perzel a week after the onetime Harrisburg powerhouse was paroled from a prison in the Laurel Highlands.

In the interview in his Northeast Philadelphia home, the Republican reflected on what his time in jail had taught him about friendship and his future.

"Instead of passing his time in his cell thinking about matters before the Legislature, he said, 'I thought about what am I going to do when I get out. How am I going to make a living? How am I going to take care of my family? That’s what I was concerned about

" 'I could care less what they do in Harrisburg. It has some effect on me but not a lot,” said Perzel, who clearly has come to see the law-making role he played for half his life in a different light.
