Gov. Tom Corbett can continue to concentrate on his Democratic challengers after the state Supreme Court's ruling that Bob Guzzardi, a Montgomery County businessman, should be stricken from the Republican ballot for the May 20 primary.
Mr. Guzzardi had raised little money and had negligible chances of actually winning the GOP nomination, but he had the potential to be a major irritant to the incumbent. A sizable protest vote in favor of the conservative Corbett critic would have been one more worry for the governor as he prepares to defend his seat against Democrats who are polling ahead of him.
The justices reversed a Commonwealth Court ruling in accepting the argument of Corbett allies who argued that he had failed to file a statement of financial interests with the state Ethich Commission by the deadline.
