Kaitlyn Riely has thte latest on a shift within the GOP caucus on county council:
Sue Means is the new caucus chair for Republicans on Allegheny County Council, the former chair said Wednesday night.
The Bethel Park Republican replaces Ed Kress, R-Shaler.
Ms. Means did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mr. Kress, who has been caucus chair since January, said some of his Republican colleagues voted Ms. Means in and him out at the caucus meeting prior to Wednesday's County Council meeting.
"I think they're upset about my vote for the gas leasing at Deer Lakes," Mr. Kress said, referring to the vote council took earlier this month to lease the gas rights beneath the county-owned park for natural gas drilling.
He was one of two Republicans to vote in favor of the measure, which passed 9 to 5 and was highly touted by county Executive Rich Fitzgerald, a Democrat. The other Deer Lakes yes-vote, Tom Baker of Ross, was not present at the caucus meeting, Mr. Kress said.
