Satirical text site hits Altmire
The National Republican Congressional Committee has a pretty clever new website up called "Texts from Last Congress," mimicking the popular "Texts from Last Night" -- unattributed, often hilarious, messages about carousing gone awry. In this case, the NRCC is providing actual quotes from Democrats about the 2-year-old stimulus bill with snarky made-up retorts from constituents. The site targets potentially vulnerable Dems in 2012 and those in the leadership, and Rep. Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, falls in the former category.
Following the lead of Texts from Last Night, the NRCC site posts only the area codes sending the messages, casting the Democrats as out of touch with their constituents they all are sent from D.C.'s "202," while the responses are from, for example, "724." Here's the Altmire dig:
(202) Altmire:
“Economists from across the political spectrum agree that the fastest way to revive our economy is to put in place a robust, targeted and transparent economic recovery package that can create millions of new jobs." (from a statement 1/28/09)
(724) Constituent:
and economists agree that your stimulus didn’t do that
