Senate not in recount territory

The Toomey-Sestak race had the narrowest margin of any Pennsylvnaia Senate race in at least four decades, but it wasn't close enough to trigger an automatic recount.While a feqw precincts were still uncounted, it appeared that Toomey would win by roughly 76,000 votes.  The next closest race in recent memory was another clear conservative-liberal battle when Rick Santorum upset Sen Harris Wofford with 1,735,691 votes to Wofford;s 1,648,481 _ a difference of 87,210.

At last count Sestak trailed Toomey by 1.9 percentage points -- the final tally has to be less than 0.5% for a recount. Here's the language from the state:

Act 97 of 2004 provides that any statewide race or ballot question where the margin of victory was less than one half of one percent of the total number of votes cast for that office or ballot question would automatically trigger a recount in all 67 counties.
