GOP closes on House

The GOP takeover of the state House that we mentioned earlier is official. From the AP:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Republicans are back in majority control of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives after winning at least 13 Democratic seats.

Republican candidates on Tuesday defeated Democratic floor leader Todd Eachus and at least eight other Democratic incumbents and won at least four open Democratic seats.

Six races remain uncalled, but even if Democrats win them all they will still be relegated to minority party status for the coming two-year session.

Democrats may end up flipping as few as two Republican seats, including the Philadelphia district represented by former House Speaker John Perzel.

Republicans are assured of holding at least 110 seats in the 203-member House. The Senate’s margin of 30 seats to 20 in favor of Republican’s didn’t change.
