Recount possible in WV-1
Conservative Democrat Mike Oliverio may call for a recount in the WV-1 race, which was down to just 700+ votes for Wheeling Repblican David McKinley last night. The GOP hasn't held the northern WVa seat in more than 40 years.
Republican David McKinley surprised supporters at his architecture and engineering firm in Wheeling around Midnight when he declared victory before all of the precincts results were visible on the TV screen.
“It’s 734, we have one this thing now and the only thing we have to do is make sure that they don’t try to steal it from us in some way. We have seen that happen, but again it’s 734 votes all 100 percent counted and we won,” said McKinley.
The First Congressional District race came down to about 1,300 votes.
According to the Secretary of State’s website 2,000 people wrote in Democrat Congressman Alan Mollohan on their ballots, but that information has since been removed from the website.
State Senator Mike Oliverio said he’s not conceding and a recount isn’t out of the question.
“Clearly these numbers show this race is too close to call. We have provisional ballots, we have overseas ballots and military ballots and we want every one of those soldiers serving abroad to know that their votes are going to be counted. There is going to have to be a canvas so clearly there is a lot still in play here,” said Oliverio.
