Fitzgerald tackles reassessment

Allegheny County Council President Rich Fitzgerald said he'll introduce a resolution tonight calling on new Gov. Tom Corbett and the new Republican-controlled Legislature to block a countywide property reassessment.
Mr. Fitzgerald, D-Squirrel Hill, said the reassessment ordered by Common Pleas Judge R. Stanton Wettick Jr., and upheld by the state Supreme Court, is discriminatory because other counties aren't under similar mandates.
Speaking during a morning news conference, Mr. Fitzgerald said a reassessment will have a "chilling effect" on home-buying and commercial investment.
