Want to read about Arlen Specter and Viagra?

We talked yesterday about GOP efforts to embarrass Senate Democrats -- who are seeking to approve health care reform through reconciliation, with no amendments to the House bill -- by forcing them to cast votes on bad-looking legislation. Like allowing child molesters to have Viagra.

Here's the National Republican Senatorial Committee on that one:

WASHINGTON – Highlighting his left-wing agenda and the extreme lengths to which Democrats are going to preserve their massive government-run health care bill, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) voted today to block an amendment that would have prohibited health care plans administered by the federal government from covering erectile dysfunction drugs for individuals convicted of child molestation, rape, or other forms of sexual assault.

The amendment, which was offered by U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), was defeated by Specter and his Democrat Senate colleagues during today’s health care reconciliation debate.

“Arlen Specter’s decision to allow individuals convicted of child molestation, rape, or other forms of sexual assault to obtain taxpayer-funded drugs like Viagra is disgusting and disturbing,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokeswoman Amber Marchand. “Once again, Specter put partisan politics before his constituents, and showed Pennsylvanians that he’s beholden to the extreme left. We’re confident that voters will hold Senator Specter accountable for this revolting vote if he makes it to the General Election in November.”
