Nuclear energy and Pa
Safety concerns aside -- here's our story on emergency preparedness at the Beaver Valley Power Station, the closest nuclear plant near Pittsburgh -- one of the longer term questions coming out of the Japanese disaster is on the effects of the nuclear situation on the economies of Pgh and Pa generally.
Erich Schwartzel wrote yesterday that Cranberry-based Westinghouse has bet the house on nuclear energy, and remains committed to it -- the energy corp has a full-page ad in today's sports section reaffirming that. The Morning Call has a similar story about PPL -- basically the Lehigh Valley's version of Duquesne Light -- still planning to build the state's 10th nuclear reactor, in Luzerne County.
President Obama and his administration are consistently saying they still back nuclear power.
