Heritage targets PA on BBA
The political action committee of the Heritage Foundation, a powerful conservative think tank in D.C., could be hounding you soon about a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. The GOP-led House of Representatives has teed up a vote on a BBA -- which needs two-thirds majorities in both houses and three-fourths of the states for ratification -- for the week of July 18, and Heritage is unleashing a "targeted social media campaign, robocalls and direct grassroots outreach" to 61 Congressional districts to push the measure.
In Pennsylvania that effort is targeting Democratic districts: Mike Doyle's 14th, Jason Altmire's 4th, Mark Critz's 12th and Tim Holden's 17th, according to Heritage Action spokesman Dan Holler.
The Republican-led effort -- championed in the Senate by PA's Pat Toomey -- has little to no Democratic support so far because it would require strict spending cuts.
