Q: Corbett at 44% approval

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Quinnipiac has its state government poll out today, which finds Gov. Corbett's approval numbers are up 5 points over last month, leaving him at 44-36%. We're seeing a lot of headlines noting women are behind the jump (and their approval has gone up 7 points) but he's still on the negative side with them at 37-41. The approval of male voters at 51-31 cements it.

For perspective, the ratings for his neighboring GOP governors are 35-50 for Ohio's John Kasich and 44-47 for NJ's Chris Christie. Corbett hovered at 39% approval in the previous Q polls.

In other findings -- and they're in full here -- voters say:

-- they support a new tax on natural gas drilling companies 63-28%

-- they support a local impact fee from drilling 78 – 17%

-- there should be more women in government, at 51 percent, with 5% saying there should be less and 31% no change
