NRA: Obama targets 2nd Amendment
Through murders of police officers, the shooting of a congresswoman and and fatal wounding of a little girl standing near her, the Obama administration has made no legislative effort to tighten restrictions on firearms. During the 2008 campaign, President Obama affirmed that he believed that the Second Amendment was an individual right, a view later established as the law of the land by the Supreme Court.
But don't be fooled, Wayne LaPierre warned conservatives Friday. Speaking to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, the NRA executive vice president said its all part of "a calculated effort to lull gun owners to sleep.''
The sequel to that effort, he predicted, would be a full blown effort in a second Obama term eviscerate the 2nd Amendment.
"They plan to gut the Second Amendment as we know it,'' Mr. LaPierre declared.
He asserted that, despite the covert effort, the administration had tipped tis hand in the nominations of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, who he characterized as the most anti-gun justices in the nation's history. In a second term, he said, administration wold seek to appoint still more liberal judges who would remake the Constitution to eliminate gun rights.
