The U.S. Senate today confirmed Cathy Bissoon's nomination as U.S. district judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Judge Bissoon's confirmation came on an 82-3 vote.

Pennsylvania's two senators, Bob Casey and Pat Toomey, both have been among her vocal supporters.

"Her experience and judgment make her well-qualified," Mr. Casey, D-Pa., said after her confirmation. "She is an American success story and I am confident that she will be an asset to the Western District of Pennsylvania."

Earlier on the Senate floor, Mr. Toomey, R-Pa., said Judge Bissoon's experience in employment law will serve her well in the western district. He said he expects her to be an impartial interpreter of the law.

Born and raised in New York City, Judge Bissoon has been a U.S. magistrate since 2008 and previously served as head of the labor group at Cohen & Grigsby in Pittsburgh and partner in Reed Smith LLP.
