Toomey camp: Polling looking up

Republican Senate hopeful Pat Toomey put out a memo today from Basswood Research aggregating and analyzing the independent polling this month in the Senate race, with the conclusion that Toomey's doing well. "All of the trends we are
seeing in public opinion bode very well for Pat Toomey’s chances this year," the report concludes.

On average, Toomey boasts a 7 point advantage in hypothetical general election matchups with Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., and a 9 point advantage against Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Delaware County. The two Democrats will fight it out in the May 18 primary, while Toomey -- who faces what is not considered to be a particularly tough challenge from Johnstown activist Peg Luksik -- will wait and see who he faces.
