Daily Santorum: Extolling Trump

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Not having $10,000 sitting around to bet, Rick Santorum is still working Iowa today and still talking Donald Trump.

As far as we know the Trump debate between Santorum and Newt Gingrich is still on for later this month, and Santorum was on CNN yesterday talking up the moderator. "Donald Trump, I think, would be fairer than a lot of the folks that have been moderating debates over the past few months," Santorum said on CNN's "State of the Union." (Politico)

Trump himself says Newt's decision to stay in the debate is helping him -- and hurting Mitt Romney. GOP12 caught his appearance this morning on Fox News:

"His [Romney's] numbers have gone down very substantially since he said 'no', and a lot people think it's because it showed a lack of decisiveness or a lack of courage in going into this debate.

And you look at what happened with Newt. Newt has gone up like a rocket ship."

Debate that all you want (GOP12 says it's "wrong on so many levels") but the Trump/Newsmax event surely hasn't helped Santorum so far. He's still at the very bottom of the Iowa polls. The latest University of Iowa Hawkeye poll has Gingrich leading at 30%, followed by Romney at 20%, Ron Paul at 11%, Michele Bachmann at 9%, Rick Perry at 8% and Santorum at 5%. (PoliticalWire)

Santorum's schedule is full as usual (requiring his kids to eat pizza three times a day, daughter Elizabeth tells the Register.) Monday's schedule is after the jump:
