Full statement from the campaign after the jump:

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 23 endorsed Mark Critz in the 12th Congressional District race against fellow Democratic Congressman Jason Altmire. UFCW Local 23 President Anthony Helfer praised Critz for his dedication to creating job, protecting the right of workers to join a union, and ensuring that the wealthy pay their fair share.

"Mark Critz has been there for us every time we needed him to stand up for jobs, the rights of workers and fighting to make millionaires pay their fair share," Helfer said. "UFCW Local 23 proudly endorses Mark because we know that we can count on him to stand up for working families."

Critz has assembled a strong record in Congress of fighting to create jobs, while opposing efforts to diminish workers' rights to join a union. He supports efforts to ensure that millionaires and billionaires cannot exploit tax loopholes to pay their fair share in taxes.

"I am grateful for the support of UFCW and they have my word that I will continue to stand up for working men and women," Critz said. "I will continue to fight to create jobs for Western Pennsylvania while fighting for economic fairness for the 99% of Americans."

UFCW Local 23 has 13,000 members in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and New York, 10,000 of which reside in Western Pennsylvania.

Critz has been endorsed by the United Mine Workers of America, Laborers District Council of Western Pennsylvania, United Steelworkers, Service Employees International Union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1279 and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.

The Utility Workers Union today endorsed Mark Critz in the race for the newly drawn 12th Congressional District.  UWUA National President Michael Langford said that Critz has the strongest record of the candidates in the race when it comes to creating jobs and fighting for the middle class.

“We are building momentum every day and the endorsement of the Utility Workers is a boost to my campaign,” Critz said. “We are receiving the vast majority of labor union endorsements because they know that creating good paying jobs is my top priority and I’ll continue to fight for the working men and women of Western Pennsylvania.”

Sterner praised Critz’s support of the Employee Free Choice Act and his work to fight to save local jobs for workers.  He said that Critz has worked to strengthen the middle class and has consistently stood up to those who would dismantle programs like Social Security and Medicare through legislation like the Republican Balanced Budget Amendment.

“Mark Critz is fighting in Washington to protect the right of workers to join a union and he has shown that he is willing to fight for jobs here and the proof is when he fought to save 700 jobs in his district,” Sterner said. “Mark Critz showed real courage when he opposed the Republican Balanced Budget Amendment which would have been devastating to the middle class and would have led to massive cuts to Social Security and Medicare.  Mark Critz has been there for workers and the Utility Workers are proud to endorse Mark Critz for Congress.”

Critz has been endorsed by the United Mine Workers of America, Laborers District Council of Western Pennsylvania, United Steelworkers, Service Employees International Union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1279 and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
