Voter ID causing low turnout?

Published by Tim McNulty on .

As we mentioned earlier, low voter turnout and Pennsylvania's new voter ID law are mostly what people are talking about today. There could be reason for that.

"Do you suppose turnout is so markedly awful because people were turned away or more likely intimidated by the new Voter ID law?" writes Bram Reichbaum at Pgh Comet. KDKA-TV's Jon Delano says via Twitter he'll be reporting on the same theory tonight. We expect to be hearing a lot in coming days if the GOP-supported voter ID plan depresses turnout, and how Democrats will react -- the Obama camp is already synthesizing voter ID education into its get out the vote efforts.

Moving the primary up to April this presidential year -- rather than holding it in May, as it is every other year -- may also be having an impact.
