DeWeese reports to prison

Published by Laura Olson on .

Former Democratic state Rep. Bill DeWeese has reported to Dauphin County prison to begin his sentence, after losing on Friday his bid to postpone it during his appeal.

The local ABC affiliate was on hand when he showed up and offered a few brief goals for his two-to-five year prison term:

"I just want to say three things," DeWeese said. "One: I'm going to obey all the rules, two: I'm going to stay in tip-top physical shape, and three: I'm going to make new friends."

The Greene County lawmaker was convicted of conspiracy, conflict of interest and three counts of theft for using public resources for political purposes.

UPDATE: Here's video of his remarks outside the prison yesterday from ABC-27. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, Stephanie, and he offered a small, familiar grin to reporters as he referenced his social goal for his time behind bars.
