Orie resigns; special election on way

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Jane Orie has finally resigned in advance of her sentencing on public corruption charges. We'll check the exact details later, but at some point Senate leadership will issue an election writ that will trigger a special election for her seat north of Pittsburgh, which would presumably be held this summer. Party committees will decide on the candidates to run.

Former congresswoman and state Sen. Melissa Hart, R-Bradford Woods, is among those looking at the seat.

Orie's sentencing was supposed to be today but was postponed until June 4.
