Freed raises money off of drug bust
Republican attorney general candidate David Freed didn't have an opponent in the primary, but found something to do on Election Day: announce a massive drug bust, one of largest in Cumberland County's history.
Freed, who serves as Cumberland County district attorney, made another big drug bust announcement yesterday.
By mid-afternoon, news of the seizure was in a fundraising email sent by his campaign.
The message says Freed "has worked tirelessly to ban synthetic drugs," and continuing that work would be "one of his top priorities" if elected attorney general.
It goes on to state that if supporters think it's important to elect an AG who will lock up criminals and protect Pennsylvania families, they should donate $10 and "like" the campaign on Facebook.
The full text of the email can be found after the jump:
Yesterday in Cumberland County, District Attorney Dave Freed announced the police seizure of more than $500,000 in illegal synthetic drugs – principally a combination of synthetic marijuana and bath salts.
As District Attorney, Dave has worked tirelessly to ban synthetic drugs, but the fight is far from over. As Attorney General, stopping the expansion of synthetic drugs will be one of his top priorities. Dave will establish a Synthetic Drug Task Force to seek cooperative solutions to this growing national problem. The Task Force will work with law enforcement agencies, state government, our governor and the legislature to remain nimble and responsive to this ever-evolving threat.
Pennsylvania fought to beat back the crystal meth epidemic. Dave believes that we can and we must stop the spread of synthetic drugs as well.
During yesterday’s press conference, Dave issued a warning to parents about the dangers of these substances: “Parents, if you see a wrapper like this around your house, it is not innocent stuff. The most frightening thing is we don’t know what the effects are going to be because they are purely man-made. Some of these packages say ‘Not Fit For Human Consumption.’ Retailers can choose to engage in that fantasy if they want to, but we are not going to.”
If you think it’s important for Pennsylvania to elect an Attorney General who is locking up criminals and protecting Pennsylvania families each day, you can help us win this race in a few very important ways:
1. You can make a $10 contribution right now.
2. You can “Like” us on Facebook.
3. You can share this email with friends and family and encourage them to join our mailing list.
Thanks very much for your continued hard work and support,
