OFA kicks off midterm voter drive
Obama's political arm -- Organizing For America -- will kick off a drive this weekend to get first-time 2008 voters back to the polls for November's election, the group says. From a press release:
Philadelphia – Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, Dr. Manan Trivedi, and Mayor John Callahan will join Organizing for America-Pennsylvania (OFA-PA) to officially launch its campaign to engage area voters around the fall elections at canvass events on Saturday, June 5. The events in Pennsylvania are part of thousands of “VOTE 2010 Kickoff” actions happening nationally this weekend as volunteers begin voter outreach to build support for candidates who will be strong allies for President Obama in Congress.
Onorato will gather with Pittsburgh residents to kick-off a citywide canvass and Dr. Trivedi and Mayor Callahan will join with local residents in the 6th and 15th Congressional Districts respectively. Volunteers will assemble at each location for brief remarks and to pick up walk packets before going door-to-door asking residents to commit to voting in 2010.
As the President laid out in his video to supporters a few weeks ago, OFA volunteers will be making a special effort to connect with the same people who went to the polls for the first-time ever in 2008. By returning to the polls this fall, these first time voters from 2008 will have a major impact on elections across the country. The June 5 kickoff marks the start of the grassroots organizations’ 2010 push to reach voters for the November elections and is the first of many actions that OFA supporters will carry out this election season.VOTE 2010 Pittsburgh Canvass Kickoff
