Mercyhurst: Kelly up by 7

While Kathy Dahlkemper was cruising down 79 on her way to a fundraiser with Vice President Joe Biden this afternoon, she had plenty of time to contemplate yet another poll showing her trailing her Republican challenger Mike Kelly.

The Mercyhurst College Center for Applied Politics found that the freshman Democrat had the support of just 37 percent of the registered voters surveyed by the college’s researchers.  Mr. Kelly was 7 points ahead at 44 percent.  The Democrat’s numbers actually looked good compared to the opinions on other high profile Democrats in the district at the Northwest corner of the state.

President Obama’s job approval rating was 37 percent.  Gov. Ed Rendell scored an even more dismal 31 percent.

Republicans were also ahead in the district in the two statewide races.  Attorney General Tom Corbett led Dan Onorato, 42 percent to 36 percent in the governor’s race, and Pat Toomey led Joe Sestak 39 percent to 31 percent. You can see the entire survey in all its cross-tabular splendor here.
