HARRISBURG -- State Supreme Court staff member Janine Orie has been indefinitely suspended, with pay, from her $66,950-a-year state job, due to the charges brought against her last week by Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr., court spokesman Art Heinz said today.

Ms. Orie is the chief administrative judicial assistant for her sister, Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin, working in her Pittsburgh office. Ms. Orie has only had that job since Jan. 4, when her sister joined the high court, but she had also worked for 10 years for Justice Orie Melvin when she was a Superior Court judge. The suspension-with-pay was effective last Wednesday.
