A couple of breaking news items worth a look:

The state Senate panel is moving toward approval of two Common Pleas Court judges, over budgetary objections from Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald Castille.

Pittsburgh City Council voted tentatively today to reject Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's parking privatization plan. Here's the breakdown for Grant Street vote-watchers: Nos from council President Darlene Harris and Patrick Dowd, Bruce Kraus, Natalia Rudiak, Doug Shields and Bill Peduto; a yes from Ricky Burgess; and abstentions from R. Daniel Lavelle and Theresa Kail-Smith abstained. (That's a veto-proof bloc of six -- if the no's stick together. There's still a long way to go on this issue.)
