Congress: Half millionaires

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Open Secrets is out with its latest look at the personal finances of Congress, finding that nearly half of all its members are millionaires. The group collectively did pretty well from 2008-2009, with their wealth rising 16%. (PS, one of the top assets held by lawmakers is Pgh-based Education Management Corp., owners of the Art Institutes.)

A searchable database where you can look up Pa and other lawmakers is here. The most well-off WPa lawmakers appear to be Republicans Tim Murphy (with up to $1.3 million in assets) and Bill Shuster (up to $1.8 million). Outgoing Erie Dem Kathy Dahlkemper -- she of the attack ads on "Millionaire Mike" Kelly -- was also up there at $1.8 million.
