Santorum to reprise faith speech

Published by Daniel Malloy on .

Tracking JFK from Houston to Boston, Penn Hills' own Rick Santorum plans to reprise his speech on faith in the public square Saturday at a symposium on Catholic statesmanship. Santorum first delivered the address -- which he called a retort to John F. Kennedy's speech 50 years ago saying his Catholic faith would not unduly influence his presidency -- in Houston in September. (You can find the full text of that speech here.) The symposium is hosted by St. Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, a Catholic school of just 87 students located outside Boston.

Santorum has always been outspoken about his Catholic faith, which he said spurred him to vigorous fights against abortion and gay marriage during his two terms in the Senate (before he was ousted by Sen. Bob Casey in 2006).

Santorum has been in nearby New Hampshire this week, gearing up for a run for the presidency in 2012. On Tuesday, the Morning Call reports, he called Wikileaks founder Julian Assange a terrorist during remarks at a Rotary Club breakfast.
