Huber pours more $$$ into PA3 bid
Retired Meadville businessman Paul Huber has loaned himself another $50,000 in his GOP primary bid in the 3rd District, Pa2010 reports, which makes for $300G's total he's poured into the campaign.
There are 6 Republicans in the race, all hoping to unseat Kathy Dahlkemper in November. Here's what I wrote about Huber and fellow PA-3 big-spender Mike Kelly in a story yesterday:
National Republicans see the pair as the frontrunners in the primary, as they have the most money and have been the only two to advertise on television. Ad money goes a long way in the 3rd, as it costs only about $20,000 per week to be on air (for comparison, it is $800,000 weekly in Philadelphia). Through March 31, Mr. Huber raised $417,000 for his bid, much of it through a $250,000 personal loan. Mr. Kelly posted $218,000, with a $165,000 loan.
But being an establishment candidate could have its dangers in this unpredictable year. "It's sort of David versus Goliath," Mercer County conservative activist and blogger Roberta Biros said, of the gap between Mr. Huber and Mr. Kelly and the other candidates.
