Legalize It

Ugh. Journalistic objectivity aside I think we need a prescription from Dr. Leo Spaceman for some California Skunk or possibly Light of Jah after our last few days of tech problems here at Early Returns.

It looks like Democrats in the state Senate -- including Pittsburgh's Jim Ferlo and Wayne Fontana --could be coming to our aid, via a new bill to allow for medical use of marijuana.

According to this overview from Philadelphia Weekly, the bill cites the beneficial aspects of the drug in treating cancer and other serious ailments, and that it has been allowed in states such as Alaska, Nevada and Oregon. A similar bill died last year, even though polling shows some 60 percent of Pennsylvanians support legalization.

No word yet on how it will fare this year but we know a perfect House cosponsor -- Paul, brother of Jay, Costa.
