Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett had more than $3.3 million in cash by early this month, even after a burst of spending around the May 18 primary.

A coversheet from the state Attorney General's latest campaign finance report -- released by his campaign today -- shows he raised $1.4 million through the May 4-June 7 reporting period and spent $1.8 million. He entered the period in the strongest position of any candidate, with more than $3.7 million on hand.

The campaign for his Democratic opponent -- Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato --went into the last weeks of the primary with about $1 million left in its coffers, and Mr. Onorato admitted after the primary that he had spent most of his money battling his three Democratic opponents.

The Onorato campaign has not released his latest numbers, which are due to be sent to the Department of State by the end of business today.
