Abortion foes target Dahlkemper
An anti-abortion group is targeting Erie Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper over her 11th hour support of the health care reform bill, saying it ensures federally-funded abortion. Dahlkemper was among a group of conservative Dems (including Bart Stupak and Alan Mollohan, neither of whom will stand for reelection this year) who supported the bill after the White House agreed to an executive order saying federal funds would not support the practice.
From the Susan B. Anthony List, in a news release saying it will support her Republican opponent Mike Kelly of Butler with $300,000 in ads:
“Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper will soon realize, as Alan Mollohan and Bart Stupak already have, that votes do have consequences. While Kathy Dahlkemper betrayed women and unborn children with her vote in favor of a pro-abortion health care bill and subsequently ushered in the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade, we know that Mike Kelly will keep his promise to protect Life. The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse dependable pro-life leaders like Mike Kelly.”
Dahlkemper has also been targeted by Sarah Palin and Americans For Prosperity, which caused a stir when criticizing her over the bill's cancer coverage, weeks after both her parents died of the disease.
