Obama formally supports Sestak
No surprise here, but for the record, Barack Obama has formally switched his allegiance from Arlen Specter to Joe Sestak.
Obama's campaign arm, Organizing for America, issued this email today:
In the fall election, voters will face a decision between a Democrat who represents a progressive vision for the future of Pennsylvania, and a Republican who made his fortune trading the derivatives that helped cause the recession. The choice is clear: we must elect Congressman Joe Sestak to be our next U.S. Senator.
Learn how you can help Joe Sestak -- a strong ally of President Obama -- and his campaign for U.S. Senate.
Congressman Sestak has the experience we need in Washington. He's a 31-year U.S. Navy veteran, who served as President Clinton's Director for Defense Policy, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, and as commander of sea combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He's a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a Ph.D. in Political Economy from Harvard University.
After retiring from the Navy, Joe returned to Pennsylvania, was elected to Congress in 2006, and has been a progressive champion ever since. He's fought alongside President Obama to enact historic health reform legislation, to create jobs and opportunity in Pennsylvania through the Recovery Act, and now to protect consumers from reckless behavior by the big banks.
So, with the general election under way, we don't have any time to waste. Just as Senator Specter said after the primary election, "It is vital that we keep this seat in the Democratic Party's hands." And we need your help to ensure that happens.
