T Party GOTV HQ opens Tuesday
An offshoot of a national nonprofit that trains tea party activists and other conservatives in campaign tactics is opening a get-out-the-vote office in Wexford next week. (Yes, in GOP-targeted Democrat Jason Altmire's district.)
American Majority Action opens its "Liberty Headquarters" Tuesday night (details below). The group is headed by Drew Ryun, the twin brother of George W. Bush speechwriter Ned Ryan, who has done campaigning seminars in Pittsburgh (we wrote about one back in March) and elsewhere as leader of American Majority. A.M. is largely funded by another non-profit conservative organization called the Sam Adams Alliance that does the same kind of thing.
It's a long story [as donations to 501(c)(4) lobbying groups such as American Majority Action do not need to be disclosed publicly] but if you want to read more about the Sam Adams group here's something from the New York Times.
Here's the press release from American Majority Action:
WEXFORD, PA (September 10, 2010)- As post-Labor Day election efforts begin in earnest, a coalition of local grassroots leaders and tea party activists are joining together with American Majority Action to open the Western Pennsylvania Liberty Headquarters in Wexford, PA on Sept. 14 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The Western Pennsylvania Liberty Headquarters is located at 12703 Perry Highway, The Westmont Building, Suite B in Wexford, and will serve as a hub of grassroots activity in Western Pennsylvania for the remainder of this election season.
“We are excited to have the chance to partner with tea parties and 912 organizations across the United States. They are the ones leading the charge. They are the ones impacting their cities and states. We view our role as facilitating and meeting a need,” said Drew Ryun, president of American Majority Action. “This effort will provide the resources and infrastructure for citizens to make a dramatic difference this fall. Our goal is to partner with grassroots conservatives and restore the principles of limited, responsible government both in Washington and at state capitols across the nation.”
Local grassroots leaders and the Pennsylvania Field Director of American Majority Action, Martin Gillespie, will be available for interviews during the event.
Western Pennsylvania Liberty Headquarters is one of six Liberty Headquarters being opened around the country simultaneously, including a location in suburban Philadelphia.
