Raese: I'm riding an elephant

Published by Tim McNulty on .

Republican John Raese wasn't happy when his opponent in the special WVa Senate election, Democrat Joe Manchin, won the NRA's endorsement last week. A reporter from the Shepherdstown Observer was there to get his unfiltered reaction (and then talked to him about it later on video):

Later in the day, on his way back from visiting a company that makes huge metal tank containers, Raese takes a call. The National Rifle Association has announced it will endorse Joe Manchin and not John Raese. This comes a week after the United States Chambers of Commerce and West Virginia Chamber said they would endorse Manchin. Raese speaks angrily into the phone, his words full of threat: “Tell them that I have an A plus rating with them, and that if they are fair they should include that. Tell them about the polling. Tell them I’m riding an elephant.”

Raese pulls the cell phone away from his ear and hands it back to the Patrick, the driver. “That has made it a lot harder,” says the candidate.
