Gov. Ed Rendell was at the White House today to talk about infrastructure -- see my story from the main site for more on that -- but the gregarious former Democratic National Committee chair was also willing to share his thoughts on the Pennsylvania political scene for any members of the Fourth Estate who care to listen. "I sense real momentum in Pennsylvania," he said, citing how Joe Sestak and Dan Onorato have (slightly) narrowed the polling gaps in the Senate and governor races, respectively. "We're coming. It's just will we get there soon enough."

NBC's Chuck Todd asked if he had any thoughts on President Barack Obama's strategy lately, which included a trip to Philadelphia on Sunday with Rendell in tow.

"I think in the last three weeks they have done everything right," Rendell said. "The president has been speaking to the base. The president has just got to convince people to get to the polls."

Well, Todd responded, that sounds like before the past three weeks they weren't doing it right -- is this push too late?

"We'll find out on Nov. 2," Rendell said with a laugh, then added that many voters don't tune in to an election until the last four or five weeks anyway.

Wise move. As any of the 9.6 percent of the country that's unemployed can tell you, it's probably bad form to criticize a potential future employer when you're going to be looking for work soon.
