PA-3: Send in the nuns

Published by Daniel Malloy on .

As we've noted here before, abortion politics have become a principal theme in the PA-3 race, and Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper, D-Erie, is up today with a couple of new ads on the subject.

A minute-long radio ad stars a family friend named "Sister Mary," a Catholic nun who vouches for Dahlkemper's pro-life cred. (Gives me a great excuse to link to Mel Brooks' History of the World Part 1: "We've flattened their fingers/ We've branded their buns/ Nothing is working/ Send in the nuns!")

Also, a television spot (seen below) features Dahlkemper talking about her own unplanned, out of wedlock pregnancy: "My Catholic faith guided me to do the right thing then, as it does now." She goes on to say "When you hear my opponents talk about my views on life, know they are absolutely false." This of course goes back to the point of whether the health care bill provides backdoor funding for abortions. Dahlkemper and the Dems say it doesn't; many pro-life groups claim it does.
