John Perzel loses

Inquirer:

Amid allegations he misused public money, state Rep. John M. Perzel (R., Phila.) Tuesday lost the seat he has held for more than 30 years.

Jeff Dempsey, campaign manager for Democratic newcomer Kevin Boyle, said Perzel, the former House majority leader and speaker, has called Boyle to concede the 172nd district race.

Perzel, who has denied wrongdoing, faces trial on charges in the "Bonusgate" scandal. He is accused of improperly funneling state money for campaign purposes.

Boyle, 30, is a former City Council aide and the younger brother of Brendan Boyle, who represents a neighboring district.
