Pgh hosts Pa liberal convention
The second PA Progressive Summit will be held Jan. 22-23 at the Sheraton Station Square. A press conference is set for tomorrow morning at the City-County Building, and full details are in the press release below:
Progressive leaders and activists from across Pennsylvania will be announcing that Pittsburgh will play host to the second Pennsylvania Progressive Summit in 2011. Billed as the largest gathering of progressives in Pennsylvania, the Summit will provide a forum for networking, education and inspiration of the state's progressive base.
"We chose Pittsburgh because of the leadership local groups have shown on issues like the Marcellus Shale Drilling ban and Prevailing wage legislation. Everyone thinks of Philadelphia as being the state foci for progressive activism, but Pittsburgh progressives, from the grassroots to the elected officials have shown real leadership in achieving real results" explained Mike Morrill Executive Director of Keystone Progress.
The announcement will be made on Wednesday, November 17 at 9:00 AM on the 5th floor of the City-County Building, [address]. Councilman Doug Shields and representatives of the AFL-CIO, Clean Water Action, Sierra Club, and United Food and Commercial Workers will be in attendance to talk about the importance of the Summit to people working on important issues affecting Pennsylvanians.
"Despite pundit proclamations, Progressives across Pennsylvania have been busy over the last two years working on affecting change rather than complaining. We helped push historic health care reform, help for the unemployed, and various important local agenda items like prevailing wage in publicly funded development" stated Michael Morrill, Executive Director of Keystone Progress. "Progressives will come from across the state to gather here in Pittsburgh in January to continue to work towards solutions on issues like Marcellus Shale, strengthening the middle class, and ensuring access to good education for everyone."

The PA Progressive Summit will be held on the weekend of January 22-23 at the Sheraton Station Square. The organizers anticipate at least 500 attendees at the core event, with other related events drawing more participants. There will be 80-90 workshops and caucus meetings, with nationally-recognized progressive leaders bringing inspirational messages.
The first Progressive Summit was held in Harrisburg in January and had 600 participants. That event featured the gubernatorial and US Senate debates of the 2010 campaign.
