Incoming Speaker of the House John Boehner is hosting 15 Republican governors-elect, including Pennsylvania's own Tom Corbett, for a summit in D.C. this week, according to The Hill. Repealing the health care reform law and spending cuts will dominate the agenda:
"Washington doesn't have all the answers, and the best solutions usually come from outside the Beltway," Boehner said in a statement. "Republicans may still be outnumbered in Washington, but with the American people and reform-minded governors standing with us, there's a lot we can do together to stop runaway government spending and help small businesses get back to creating jobs."
Boehner's made efforts to bring GOP governors together with congressional Republicans, especially as the party moves toward the 2012 presidential election. When Boehner hosted a press conference on Capitol Hill following the election, both McConnell and Republican Governors Association (RGA) Chairman Haley Barbour (Miss.) were on hand.
