OFA returns to lobbying
President Obama's Organizing for America cadre of supporters went from a group mobilized to lobby for health care reform, financial regulatory reform and other White House priorities before pivoting to the 2010 electoral effort in favor of Democrats. Now, before the inevitable crusade for "The Re-Elect," the group is back to lobbying members of Congress.
Tomorrow evening, according to a release out today from OFA, volunteers are gathering at a home in Point Breeze to call lawmakers across the country and urge them to support the DREAM Act -- an immigration reform measure that would give illegal immigrants who came here as children the ability to apply for permanent status if they go to college or serve in the military -- and a defense authorization bill that includes a repeal of the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy on gays.
