You remember American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, right? The Karl Rove-backed conservative groups that poured millions into the midterms wasted no time in hopping back into the fray, this time targeting Democrats who barely survived the Republican wave with a radio ad urging them to back the tax cut compromise. GPS -- which does not have to disclose its donors -- is going after a dozen House Dems, including Rep. Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, who fended off Republican Keith Rothfus, featuring the favorite boogeywoman of the 2010 cycle: Nancy Pelosi.

Here's the link to the spot. It is directed at Virginia's Gerry Connolly, but it's an identical script for Altmire -- use your imagination!

It accuses Pelosi of "trying to raise taxes while our economy suffers," a reference to Pelosi's stand against the deal to extend the tax rates for all earners, negotiated by President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans. It warns of a hike of "the death tax" and other hikes that would come if Congress doesn't act before the New Year. It asks if Altmire "will side with Nancy Pelosi to raise job-killing taxes, or with struggling families and small businesses who can create the jobs we need." It urges listeners to call Altmire and "urge him to stand up to Pelosi and demand a vote."

Now, if Crossroads honchos were Post-Gazette readers, they'd know that Altmire backs the tax cut compromise. Nonetheless, it's a sign that the well-funded groups plan to keep perpetual heat on Democrats.
