David  J. Calfo, a Lawrenceville carpenter and artist, is challenging Patrick Dowd for the Democratic nomination for city council in District 7.

Mr. Dowd lost a bid to unseat Mayor Luke Ravenstahl in the 2009 Democratic mayorl primary.  He is seeking his second term on council

In a press release announcing his candidacy, Mr. Calfo said that he was entering the race because, “Things aren’t built right.  That’s the biggest problem facing the city.  Whether it’s sidewalks, roads, bridges, or pensions _ it’s all the same.’’

Mr. Dowd already faced opposition in the East End district.   Chris Potter reported in the City Paper that Tony Ceoffe Jr.,  a neighborhood activist who is the son of a district judge, who jurisdiction overlaps the council seat is also in the running there.  Mr. Ceoffe could not immediately be reached for comment..
